Although the exact details of Community Supported Agriculture farm memberships vary, the nature of most CSA farms in the same. By joining a CSA farm, you make a choice to keep your food dollars local and support your local economy. You also place your trust in a local farmer. Farming is a risky business because of the vagaries of weather and pests, and by committing to a CSA you are willing to share in that risk. When members purchase a share in a farm they are sharing in the plenty and the dearth. In some cases this might mean a single crop failure in a season or in a shortened season. In other cases, it might mean an extended season because of a mild Fall. We at Sunbow do our very best to provide you with plentiful, chemical-free produce within the constraints that nature provides, yet we also must pay the bills regardless of what nature deals us. On average, we deliver for 26 weeks each season, but season length may vary between 24 and 28 weeks depending on Spring and Fall weather. Within these limits, membership cost does not change if the season is shorter or longer than the 26 week average.
We are unable to provide a refund should you choose to cancel your membership. By signing up to join the farm, you have taken a slot that is no longer available to other members of the community. We are happy to transfer your payment to a new member that you recruit so that this member can pay you instead.
Although we try our best to keep the farm safe, a farm can be a dangerous place to visit or work. Specific hazards at Sunbow can include, but are not limited to: broken glass, rusty nails, splintering wood, wasps and farm machinery. We ask that you are cognizant of these risks and take necessary precautions to protect yourself and your family from injury.
NEW MEMBERS (Work share and non-work share) please plan to attend a required 1 hour information session at the farm in April. We will provide multiple dates so you can find one that works. At this session, we will tour the farm, meet your farmer and other members and review how Sunbow CSA works with regard to orders, pick-up, using the website, etc.
IF YOU SIGN UP FOR A WORK SHARE: The work
commitment for a 2021 Sunbow share is 15 person hours ($150). Late May to mid-June is
the most critical time of the year at the farm with regard to weed
control. All work share members must sign up for one weeding shift
(2.5 hours) between May 25 and June 15. Children are always welcome at the farm, to work or to play
while you work. We do ask if you count their time in your work hours
that they are actually doing the same amount of work in an hour that an
adult would. Upon completion of your work share hours, we will send a refund check. We do not send partial refunds if you do not complete the full work commitment.
